First Steps!

What an exciting day!

Lucy started getting closer to walking while we were in GC, she'd take one step on her own, but then always fall right away. And she was getting faster at walking holding our hands, but it still seemed like she had a long way to go before walking on her own. Then yesterday, I guess things just clicked all of the sudden... I wasn't expecting it at all! It's amazing to watch the transformation happen, one day putting one foot in front of the other seems too complicated, then the next day it just makes sense to her. I love watching her grow.

She started being able to push herself up off of the ground (not holding on to anything) at the beginning of the day, which was enough excitement for me- then Ben was playing with Lucy in the kitchen and had been counting her steps, when all of the sudden he just kept counting... "1, 2, 3, 4... Jess go get the camera!!!" So I ran upstairs and got the video camera and got some of her first steps on tape:

A few more steps this time...

She is still very cautious about the whole thing, and I think realizes that crawling for right now is a little faster... but I'm sure she'll get the hang of it soon enough and be off running soon!

Waving

For the past two weeks Lucy has been waving at everything! It is adorable, and makes me smile every time...

6 Month Videos

I'm almost ready to start cruising! Here I am going after mom's cell phone again... I took a couple steps, but I'm still pretty apprehensive about the whole one foot in front of the other thing...

What we've been up to lately

Now that Lucy has mastered crawling and pulling up, she's been trying out a new skill...

Look mom! No hands!


Lucy's been trying out standing with no hands these past couple weeks. She usually holds it for around 10-15 seconds, then it typically ends in a crash. But, she keeps on trying!




She's also been loving finding her new "friend" in all the glass/mirrors around our house...


And digging through her toys, dumping them out till the family room floor is covered!


Ruthie was not impressed...

Solid Foods

We had a big week last week - Lucy started eating solids, she started crawling, and we took our first vacation to the ocean. Here is some video of the first time eating solids. She loved it! I definitely think she was ready...

Crawling!

Lucy started crawling last week! We were on vacation in Florida with my family - I think these new water toys gave her the motivation to get moving. I got some video of her going after my cell phone. Look at her move!

New Milestones!

Lucy has been on the move this week! She's officially "creeping" - not quite crawling, but gets forward by getting up on all fours then throwing herself forward, she can go from laying down to sitting up (adding a new dimension to nap time), and just yesterday I discovered her ability to pull herself up and stand holding on to something other than Ben or I.

Learning this was actually funny, I've never seen Lucy pulling up on anything before, but after about 20 minutes of her talking in her crib (odd bc she's usually only sleeping or crying in the crib), I peaked my head in and found her up on her knees sucking on the crib rail! What a little rascal... I couldn't help but crack up laughing... who needs a paci when you can just suck on the crib!

I helped her to standing (she's still working on getting past being on her knees) but once she was up there she stood all on her own!


Today's nap... I peaked in after 20 minutes (thinking she was zonked) and found her sitting, spinning the mobile... this should make for an interesting couple days!

**editor's note, right after I wrote this, I was playing with Lucy downstairs and she was able to pull herself up onto her feet!

Pre-crawling Moves

Lucy is working so hard to crawl- I just had to get some video of her moves, she's getting so strong! I think there are definitely some hardcore pilates/yoga moves mixed in here...

My New Tricks

If I'm not working on crawling, I like to sit up... the trouble is, when I'm sitting I can't reach any of my toys without tumbling over... hmm... maybe mom can get me one of those grabber things

Rolling Over

Lucy learned to roll over this week, and now we can't keep her on her back! In fact the first night that she learned to roll from back to stomach, we ended up having to go roll her back over every couple hours through out the night in her crib. I think she'd get flipped over and then got a little freaked out that she was on her tummy and couldn't find her paci.

She is such a strong/smart little girl, it was amazing to watch as she grunted and twisted and finally made it over for the very first time. We had been practicing, I'd help her make the full roll - and then on Wednesday, it was like things just clicked!

Now she's a pro...
